Why Derring Dude

Shopping for me is an experience. Once a way to fill time, shopping now gives me a sense of recognition and connection to the many different places I visit during my considerable travels around the country. Merchandise, layout and philosophy, as established by a passionate and engaging owner, make the experience for me. Not always in that order, either.

See, shopping to me also is personal, which is the way I think a lot of women consider it. A lot of guys see shopping as a task. That’s not my perspective, which is why I decided to start this blog. Another reason: In these economic times, there are no guarantees that your favorite places or things will persist. We have to be activists in so many different areas of our lives, just to maintain our sense of order and comfort. This is one such effort. And, for all the guys I know and have met, who wish they had the time or guts or whatever else may be blocking their entry to shopping-dom, this blog is one way of crossing some of those barriers off your list. I’m doing the footwork for you.

Finally, what’s the deal with the blog title? Well, even in these (slightly) more-enlightened times, shopping still widely is considered a “female thing.” And “derring do” is a somewhat archaic phrase meaning heroic or swashbuckling, so a “Derring Dude” is someone willing to turn the shopping stereotype on its head. I hope that’s you.
